After competing
for 5 years on the F.I.S. World Cup circuit as a member of the
U.S. Ski Team, and 4 more on the World Pro Skiing circuit, Lathrop
spent over a decade as founder/director of the Lathrop Ski Camps
and Windsurfing Vacations. The ski camps offered a year-round
schedule of international skiing and racing camps for adults
and juniors, while the windsurfing programs included vacations
and clinics around the U.S., the Caribbean and Europe.
With a
B.A. from Middlebury and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School,
more recently his attention has focused on creating KiD-SKi,
developing the KiD-SKi concept and products, and developing
other innovative products like the Kiddie Skate Bar, Kiddie
Roller Bar and the Snowboard Paddles. As new products were developed,
and with the success of KiD-SKi, Lathrop founded Apple Rise
Sports, under which all of the products are produced, marketed
and distributed.
The KiD-SKi
products and KiD-SKi Learning Progression grew as a direct result
from teaching his own kids to ski very quickly at a very young
age -- 15 months, 10 months, 13 months and 7 1/2 months. Likewise,
he created the Super Kiddie Bar, a truly wonderful device for
skiing, ice-skating, inline-skating and roller-skating with
toddlers and preschoolers.
